Can you understand the dichotomy she is experiencing? Discuss a mother’s deployment and what it means from all angles-honor, love, commitment, abandonment. She thinks that she wants to go (to war), but that she doesn’t want to leave (her family). When Jolene learns of her deployment, she is conflicted. What does this internal question reveal about Michael? About Jolene?ģ. When Michael says, “I don’t love you anymore,” he wonders fleetingly if he’d said the words so that Jolene would fall apart or cry or say that she was in love with him. How does this scene lay the groundwork for her personality and her choices in the remainder of the book?Ģ. In the prologue of Home Front, we see Jolene’s early life and the incident that leads up to her parents’ deaths. *Other Books by Same Author: NIGHT ROAD, WINTER GARDEN, TRUE COLORS, FIREFLY LANE, MAGIC HOUR, COMFORT & JOY, THE THINGS WE DO FOR LOVE, BETWEEN SISTERS, DISTANT SHORES, SUMMER ISLAND, ANGEL FALLS, ON MYSTIC LAKE, HOME AGAIN, THE ENCHANTMENT, ONCE IN EVERY LIFE, WAITING FOR THE MOON, WHEN LIGHTNING STRIKES, A HANDFUL OF HEAVENġ. *Author Website: /content/about_kristin.php This would make an excellent book club choice. After finishing this book I have a newfound respect for our military families who serve. Hannah touches upon posttraumatic stress disorder and how difficult it is for the soldiers to acclimate back into civilian life. I found the details of living a military life very interesting and informative. As a reader, I easily related to the struggles Jolene encountered being away from her children at a precarious time in their young lives. She poignantly shows scarifies a solider and their family makes while serving their country. Hannah writes a beautiful story drawing the reader in and revealing the profound effects deployment has on the entire family. She leaves for war uncertain of her future with Michael and carrying guilt for leaving her children behind. At the time of her deployment she and her husband, Michael are facing a very difficult time in their marriage. Jolene is sent to war, leaving behind her husband and two young daughters. The protagonist is Jolene, a female fighter pilot in the National Guard. And the final plot twist was awesome.PBR Book Review:Home front by Kristen Hannah is a compelling read. The story was very well crafted, the characters from the start were interesting, the voice acting elevated the final product to new heights. I give 4.56/5.00 stars – a fantastic audio presentation.
